【化学会が、SBC学校科学大賞「優秀賞」に輝く】

　「第19回長野県学校科学大賞」において、本校化学会がダニエル電池の研究で優秀賞を獲得しました。

　この奨励基金は昭和35年から運営されているもので、毎年ホールを借り切って表彰式が行われますが、本年はコロナ禍のため、SBC（信越放送）でオンライン表彰式が行われ、令和３年３月24日のSBC放送にて放映されました。

　以下からその様子が見られます。YouTube配信 で40分ほどの表彰式ですが、深志高校が登場するのは、21分30秒くらいからです。

　令和２年度は、県下各地から24件の応募があり、うち21件が助成対象になりました。その中で、優秀賞をいただいたのが、本校の化学会の武田君らの実験ですが、他にも「飯田市立 川路小学校」「飯田市立 千代小学校」「富士見町立 富士見中学校」が表彰されました。

　化学会の副部長を務める武田君からは以下のメッセージをいただいています。

「この研究は、世界初の実用的な電池として開発された一次電池のダニエル電池を二次電池化することで、より安価で安全な電池を作るというものです。また、この研究は最終的には世界のエネルギー損失を減らすことにつながります。といってもまだまだ先のことなのですが。

　先生方にもたくさんのご指導を頂き、今回このような賞を頂けたことは本当にうれしく思います。やはり答えのわかっていない研究はとても面白いです。私は夏で引退しますが、幸いにも後輩が多く入ってくれました。彼らには、私たちの研究を受け継ぎながらも、自分たちの好きな実験を楽しく突き詰めていってほしいです。」

　いやぁ、決意と意欲と温かみを感じる言葉です。１年生の時に先生のやる実験を見て研究を思いついたそうです。「答えのわかっていない」ことに挑戦する気持ち、感服するとともに、大人も頑張らなくちゃと思いました。

   Our “Kagaku-Kai,” the Chemistry Club, operated voluntarily by the students who gather after school to do scientific experiments and the like, won the award of excellence from the Ngano-based broadcasting company SBC last March.

   They worked on “Daniell cell,” an electrochemical cell invented in the 19th century by a British chemist John Frederic Daniell.  The cell is thought to be used as a sort of practical battery. 

   The award-giving ceremony was held online and was broadcasted on TV, part of which can still be watched on the webpage of the SBC listed above. (Fukashi students appear in about 21minutes and a half from the beginning in the footage.)

   This award is open to all students studying in Nagano prefecture, and the applicants are given some amount of grant money, with which they carry out their scientific research.  Last march the prizes also went to KAWJI primary school, CHIYO primary school and FUJIMI junior high school.

   Mr. TAKEDA, who led the experiment and is now the deputy chief of the club, comments as follows;   

   “Our objective is to make cheaper and safer batteries through secondary application to the Daniell cell.  This research will surely help reduce the loss of energy in the world, which I feel will have a long way to go.

   “I am very happy that we won the prize with the help of the teachers.  Personally I like the unknown scientific research which will some day lead to tackle the unsolved problems.  I will quit the club activity this summer, but luckily a lot of new club members joined us this year.  I hope they will not only take over our work but also do a lot of scientific research that they really like.”

   He said that he had come up with his idea when he saw his teacher doing the experiment in the classroom.  His admirable statement that he loves to solve unknown challenging problems makes me feel that the grown-up adults should keep working hard to make our world better.
